Week 2 – (printables , decorations, food lists, shopping)

This week has been a hectic one. I have not been able to do as much Eid planning as i had hoped to, however, i have done a few things. As the saying goes… “anything is better than nothing!”

The first thing i did, was to come up with the food lists. I do these first, because it makes creating a shopping list 100 times easier. It has to be noted though that these lists will change as time goes on. We can only do a rough plan.

Sweet Table Savory Table

Once the food lists were done, I then worked on drafting my shopping lists. I usually shop at a couple of grocery stores. So I tabulated my lists, so as to not cross over and double up on items.

With the shopping lists done, I looked into things that I could prepare ahead of time for my sweet table. This table takes the longest for me to put together usually, and therefore any work i do ahead of time, saves me a great deal of stress. Some of the things that I managed to prepare included:

  1. Coloured almonds – I use coloured almonds on my burfi, and other sweet treats to allow them to tie in with the theme of the event. (see how to blog)
  2. Coloured bits of white chocolate – I am hoping to make white chocolate bark for the sweet table, with specks of coloured chocolate through the bark, to tie in with the floral theme.
  3. Coloured desiccated coconut – to toss my marshmallows in.

I then went through my container of decorations and props to find items that i could use for my table this year. I managed to find candles, artificial flowers and other bits and bobs that I have used over the last few years.

This may seem like a lot, but it didn’t take very long, and has helped me to imagine what the tables could possibly look like on the day.  With all this done, it was time to concentrate on other things. Keep posted for next weeks planning session 🙂
